Alan-1 yoke and usb adapter
Quote from coasterlvr on May 11, 2019, 4:50 pmI guess this is a review and thoughts post. So I've been wanting to play Star Wars on mame for over a decade. I bought a yoke from someone years ago. Probably like 15 years ago at least. I planned to refurbish it and never did until a few years ago or so. During that time, i also attained a ram controls yoke and usb adapter. After refurbishing the old yoke, I eventually sold the ram controls yoke. That yoke was super stiff. Like the spring tension was very high. I never liked it because of that, and the uncomfortable handles.
The usb adapter worked, but it always felt off. I was able to confirm how off when playing original cabinets. But, I always wondered was it mame, the usb adapter, or the pots i used from arcadefixit? I really didn't play too much because of the frustrating control.
I was excited to see James' posts on klov through the development of the yoke and usb adapter. Being most interested in the usb adapter. I was glad to have gotten one and excited to try it out. Immediately, it was the best I've used with mame. Although it still didn't feel perfect. I was kind of expecting that though, but hoped it was close enough to be fun to play. Imo, it is.
I then decided May 4th was a good day to purchase a yoke as well. My yoke was great but it did feel a bit sloppy. So I received the new yoke and installed it into my makeshift control panel. Instantly, I felt the control was amazingly better. After a few days, I feel like my skills are what's holding me back now, and not the yoke or interface. I plan to build a 3/4 scale stand up Star Wars cabinet.
Here's some gameplay video. It's fun to record gameplay these days to see the bonehead moves you make. LOL
